Overview

Under the direction of the Director of Camping Services and in accordance with the purpose, policy and principles of the YMCA of Central New Mexico, this position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Camp Nurse at the YMCA of New Mexico maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families.

The Camp Nurse is responsible for the first aid and health well-being of campers and staff. The Camp Nurse serves as a member of the leadership team and will access emergent situations and direct the staff accordingly. The Camp Nurse serves for one session week at a time or more as desired.

Responsibilities

  • Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds appropriately to emergency situations. Completes related reports as required.
  • Administers first aid to campers and staff.
  • Administers medication to campers and properly documents each dose.
  • Attends to sick and injured campers and decides, with the Camp Director, when a child needs to be sent home.
  • Maintains positive relationships and collaborates well with members, participants, families and other staff.
  • Possess good judgment and decision-making skills and serves as a role model.
  • Offers feedback to counselors and staff on how to improve safety measures.
  • Participates in staff meetings and community activities during session week.

Qualifications

  • Minimum age requirement of 21. 
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required.
  • RN, EMT, or paramedic preferred.
  • Wilderness First Aid Certification preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children and staff in a camp setting preferred. 
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations preferred.

Posted Salary Range

USD $1,500.00 - USD $1,500.00 /Wk.
