Overview

The Family Engagement Coordinator at the YMCA of Central New Mexico plays a critical role in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for families while building lasting connections with members, participants, and the broader community. This position blends family engagement, community outreach, event coordination, and member services to ensure families feel valued, supported, and connected to the YMCA’s mission of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.

 

The coordinator serves as a trusted point of contact for families, acts as a liaison with schools, churches, and community organizations, and provides excellent customer service that promotes membership growth, retention, and active participation in YMCA programs.

Responsibilities

Family Engagement & Relationship Building

  • Develop and maintain strong, supportive relationships with YMCA members and their families.
  • Act as an ambassador for new families, ensuring a welcoming and positive introduction to YMCA programs and services.
  • Provide resources, information, and workshops that help families engage with YMCA programs.
  • Listen actively to families to understand their goals, interests, and needs.

Customer Service & Member Support

  • Deliver professional customer service by greeting all members and guests warmly and consistently.
  • Answer phones, respond to inquiries, and provide accurate information about YMCA memberships, programs, and special events.
  • Conduct tours and interviews with prospective members; assist with membership registration and program sign-ups.
  • Assist with cash handling, processing payments, and reconciling transactions accurately.

 

Program & Event Coordination

  • Plan, organize, and execute family-friendly events, workshops, and special activities that support family involvement and community building, including but not limited to open houses, and any marketing
  • Collaborate with program directors to integrate family engagement into childcare, youth programs, and wellness initiatives.
  • Support YMCA-wide signature events such as Healthy Kids Day
  • Coordinate family services such as Kidszone and Parent’s Night Out and Y Time Party Host, including staffing, scheduling, recruiting volunteers and bringing other organizations to provide quality services

Communication & Outreach

  • Serve as a liaison between families, schools, churches, and the YMCA.
  • Use newsletters, social media, calendars, and other communication platforms to engage and inform families.
  • Promote YMCA programs and services through proactive community outreach and relationship-building.

Volunteer Recruitment & Management

  • Recruit, train, and support family volunteers for YMCA programs and events.
  • Encourage meaningful opportunities for parents and caregivers to engage with the YMCA.
  • Recognize and celebrate volunteer contributions to strengthen family and community bonds.

Data, Reporting & Administrative Support

  • Maintain accurate records of family engagement, event attendance, and volunteer participation.
  • Track member and family feedback to inform program improvements and enhance services.
  • Provide timely reports and updates to membership and program directors.

Collaboration & Teamwork

  • Work closely with YMCA staff to ensure a holistic approach to family and member engagement.
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions.
  • Support the YMCA’s annual campaign and other fundraising initiatives by promoting involvement among families.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with families, children, and diverse communities.
  • Strong communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with digital communication tools.
  • Cash handling skills with the ability to reconcile transactions.
  • Positive, professional, and welcoming attitude; team-oriented.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Working Conditions & Physical Demands

  • Combination of office work, community outreach, and event coordination.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and engaging with members; occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds.
  • Requires close and distant vision, depth perception, and acute hearing.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends to support family events and community outreach.

Posted Salary Range

USD $15.00 - USD $15.50 /Hr.
